Here's a list of requested features.
The big purple button at the bottom always controls the episode that's currently playing. A new podcast can be played in one of the following ways:
From the feed: Tap a podcast in the feed. This reveals the episode screen, with a play button at the top. Tap it, and podcast begins to play. You can go back to the feed, and keep browsing. To see now playing, tap the button in the bottom bar.
From Subscriptions: Tap a podcast, which reveals the podcast screen. Tap any episode, revealing the episode screen. Now tap the play button at the top.
From search: If you've searched for a podcast by tapping the 🔍 button in the top bar, tap the desired podcast in the search results. This reveals the podcast screen, just like in Subscriptions. Select an episode and tap it, revealing the episode screen. Now tap the play button at the top.
To record a clip, you must be listening to the podcast episode. Play a podcast, and wait for it to finish downloading. Then tap the "New Clip" button in the gray control bar at the bottom. It scrolls the control bar left to reveal recording controls. Tap "Record". Then tap the button again to stop recording. You can play your recording by tapping play beside the record button. If you are satisfied, tap the checkmark button. Then you can optionally make a comment, or tap "Post" to post the clip.
You can also post your clip and comment to Twitter or Facebook by tapping the corresponding buttons.
To comment, you must be listening to the podcast episode. Play a podcast, then tap the "Comment" button in the gray control bar at the bottom. It pops up a commenting field. Emojis are allowed 😀.
You can also post your comment to Twitter or Facebook by tapping the corresponding buttons.
To recommend, you must be listening to the podcast episode. Play a podcast, then tap the "Recommend" button in the gray control bar at the bottom. That's it. You can change your mind and tap it again to un-recommend it.
In the gray control bar at the bottom of the screen, swipe right. Then you can tap the speed button, which starts out at "1.0x". You can change it to .75x, 1.0x, 1.5x and 2.0x.
When you search for podcasts in Tung, you are searching the iTunes podcast directory. It has by far the largest listing of podcasts in the world. Apple maintains this directory as a kind of public service. It is free for podcasters to list their podcast. Since podcasters must host their own content and RSS feeds, Apple has removed itself from any business interest in podcasts.
You can subscribe to a podcast from the episode screen or podcast screen by tapping the button at the top.
From the now playing screen: Swipe the gray control bar right. Tap "Save".
From an episode list: Tap the download icon on the right.
Saved episodes will be kept for 30 days and are then automatically deleted. Tapping save/download again will display an alert, showing you when the episode will be kept until. Then you can dismiss it or delete your local copy.
Suggested users are currently determined by simply querying the most active users on Tung - this may change in the future. But for now, the more you recommend episodes, comment and share clips, they higher you will rank among suggested users. The list is cached and refreshes every hour.
I designed Tung to be my dream podcast player. It has been a passion project and labor of love. I hope you like it too. If you have any feedback, or encounter any issues, please let me know. Email me: jamie@tung.fm
